A: Vailankanni is located on the east coast of India in the state of Tamilnadu. It is about 100 miles south of the city of Chennai.

Q: How Can I Get There ?
A: Vailankanni can be reached by car, bus or train from Chennai. It takes about 8 hours. The best way is to take the overnight train from Chennai to Nagapattinam and take a taxi to Vailankanni ( 30 mins ) Luxury sleeper bus service is available from Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, and several other south Indian cities. Q: What type of accommodations are available.
A: There are many Hotels in Vailankanni and nearby Nagapattinam. The shrine operates low cost lodging facilities. Most are very basic and lack airconditioning etc" The only lodging suitable for western travelers would be the MGM Vailankanni Residency just outside the shrine campus.


Q: When is the best time to visit Vailankanni.
A: Winter months Late October to early February are the best times to visit. The feast of Our Lady is celebrated during the first week of September each year is a great time to visit, but will be too crowded. And it is the monsoon season.


Q: What is the significance of the feast of Our Lady ?
A: The Vailankanni Shrine celebrates the feast of Our Lady during the first week of September each year to mark the birthday of Mother Mary, which Catholics believe is September 8th.


Q: Are there any tours from the US or other countries to the shrine ?
A: No package tours are currently available far as we know. Please let us know if you know of one.

A: Most major Indian cities are connected by air to almost every city in the world.
